Patara Restaurant - Thai cuisine at its very best
Fri, 7th October 2016
Colder, darker days require fun lunches with girlfriends. It’s always a joy to dine at Patara. Arguably one of the finest Thai restaurants in London, Patara offers an extensive menu with all the classic dishes we all love so much plus some innovative Asian fusion choices. They just never put a foot wrong with their cooking and the day of my review was no exception.
I popped in at the Knightsbridge restaurant for lunch with a school mum on a miserable Autumn afternoon and was immediately cheered by my aperitif of Lychee Martini. Delicious. If it was evening I could easily have devoured another. Only champagne would do for my friend and all the well-known labels were available by the glass. Struggling to select starters from the extensive menu we opted for the shared platter which is perfect if you want to taste a little bit of everything. Fish cakes, chicken satay, steamed flower dumplings and spring rolls accompanied by a different dip for each bite. Presentation was beautiful.
Service at Patara can at times be quite grumpy but on this occasion I must say it was faultless with attentive waiting staff.
King Prawn Pad Thai
For mains I had Chicken Kieaw Wan, a warming pot of chicken and bamboo shoot in a light green curry served on a small stove to keep the temperature just right. The curry is authentic, as good as any I have enjoyed on my extensive travels in Asia. My friend had Pad Thai which came with a generous quantity of seafood and was pleasingly light without the greasy feel that this dish can be ruined by. The dessert menu has tantalizing plates but unfortunately we were both just too full to try one. Next time for sure.
Patara is the perfect venue for lunch with the girls and if you go to the Knightsbridge branch there is time for a sneaky visit to Harrods before school pick up!
Patara is at 9 Beachamp Place, Knightsbridge and 181 Fulham Road, South Kensington. KV residents get 25% off food at lunch and dinner at both restaurants for parties of up to 6 diners. Offer excludes Friday and Saturday evenings after 7pm. Pre-booking required quoting “Knightsbridge Village”.
