Banyan Tree resort, Bintan

You know those luxurious, exotic resorts that you absolutely loved before you had children and now fear you can no longer visit? Banyan Tree Bintan is exactly one of those resorts. Safe yet adventurous and oozing with tropical charm.... and here’s the good news – not only does the resort deliver grown up appeal, children of all ages are made most welcome.
I stayed at the Banyan Tree Bintan when my daughter was just 13 months old. In fact she took her first steps on the beaches there, cheered on by the good natured resort staff. That’s one thing you notice immediately when you arrive - the team. Professional, gracious and sincere.
What is there not to like about an all-villa resort with breathtaking views of the south china sea and the prerequisite sandy beach? OK so the beach is not as fine as you might find in Mauritius or Levantado Cayo but how many resorts you know are built on stilts to preserve the vegetation and wildlife beneath? The villas are beautifully but simply furnished providing a perfect balance between homeliness and luxury. We loved breakfast on our private terrace every morning served by a skilled butler whilst our daughter befriended the many birds that would come and visit.
The food’s excellent if, like me, you have a fondness for Asian fusion cuisine. Dishes from the western menu didn’t quite meet my expectations but frankly why would you travel all the way to Bintan to eat french fries?
Easily assessable via a short catamaran ride from Singapore yet a world away from the hustle and bustle of city life. I will go back to the Banyan Tree, Bintan.
